Fossil unveiled as 'missing link':

Scientists have unveiled a 47-million-year-old fossil which could be the evolutionary "missing link" between humans and our very distant ancestors.

At a ceremony on Tuesday at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, Ida, a two-foot long lemur-like creature, was shown off to the world.

Discovered in Germany by a team of Norwegian scientists, Ida is 95% complete and believed to be 20 times older than most fossils which help explain human evolution.

Murky depths await us where we now tread. The path leads us into the darkest regions of myth, though we have a torch of knowledge, and a compass of understanding to guide our way through the carnivorous caverns and lurking jaws of time and space. Just as angels, and saviors, and prophets of the world have found their universal sanctuary in the mountainous cave structures of history, so too have the beasts of the shadows hid and calculated their moments of influence and manipulation upon an unsuspecting world. Among the variety of tools, artwork, weaponry, pottery and sculptures attributed to our 'Cavite' ancestors, so too do we find a large number of carven idols designated in honor of the shining goddess figure. Hundreds of statues have been found around the world which depict veneration of an icon of the Cosmic Mother.

It's an understatement to say that the organization known as the Bohemian Club is extremely secretive and shrouded in mystery. There is no 100% certifiable account establishing how this society developed and much of the information which is available is largely based upon speculation and vague research. According to public relations at the club, the Bohemian Grove was founded in 1872 by five newspapermen, as well as a local merchant and a Shakespearean actor from San Francisco. The first known meeting at the Grove did not officially take place until 1879, and shortly afterward this custom became an annual tradition that has continued consecutively for over one hundred and twenty-five years. The most well known ceremony is referred to as the 'Cremation of Care', or 'dull care', in which festivities are held including opera, music, poetry and literature, as well as plays that the 'Bohos' produce and write themselves.

-MAD: Greg, it's an honor to speak with you today and I'm not blowing smoke when I say you've emerged as one of my favorite authors over the past few months. Thank you kindly for taking the time to answer a few questions. Your contributions to the STAR TREK universe have been second to none, with the exception, perhaps, of the illustrious Peter David. The masterfully crafted books 'The Eugenics Wars' Volumes 1 & 2, as well as 'To Reign In Hell' and 'The Q Continuum' are among the most highly recommended works of Trek literature! First off, a broad question but could you give us a little personal insight into the process of becoming an author, particularly in regards to the 'Star Trek' franchise? How did you break the galactic barrier and get signed on as a Captain (or at least a lieutenant commander) at the literary helm of such an acclaimed series?

-G.C: I've been a Trek fan all my life, but my big break came when Pocket Books had to launch the DEEP SPACE NINE book line in a hurry. The editor, John Ordover, needed to sign up a whole lot of DS9 novels to coincide with the TV series so he started looking around for new Trek writers. Fortunately, John and I had previously worked as assistant editors at Tor Books before, and he knew that John Gregory Betancourt and I had recently written several BATMAN short stories for DC Comics, so he recruited us for the DS9 program. That was nine Star Trek novels ago!

Cold War Bunker Becomes Modern Mansion

In 1982, schoolteacher Ed Peden drove out to investigate a decommissioned nuclear missile bunker that was up for sale near his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. He found 34 acres of grass in need of mowing and, deep below ground, an 18,000-square-foot warren of concrete tunnels, most of it flooded with rainwater.

Peden stripped to his shorts and dropped a rope ladder into the flooded base. Most of the rooms were three-quarters flooded, and the water had stagnated for nearly two decades. Holding his nose to dive under doorways between the flooded rooms, Peden took his first tour of what would soon become his family home.
