Interview w/ Cult Favorite Horror Author David Wellington
Interviews By Mad

It’s the End of the World as we Know it:
Interview with cult-favorite horror author David Wellington
-MAD 3/4/10
http://www.upsidebackwards.info

==========

-MAD: MR. Wellington, it’s really awesome to speak with you, thanks for taking some time with us. I just finished reading your MONSTER TRILOGY and could tell from the start that this is definitely an instant classic of the “zombie apocalypse” sub-genre of horror literature, and just an all together great series of books even if you aren’t necessarily a fan of horror! When did you first realize that you wanted to be an author, and how did the genesis of the MONSTER TRILOGY first come into fruition?

-D.W.: I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I started when I was six years old. Thirty years later, I was getting a little frustrated that I’d never been published. So I put my new book online, thinking that at least people would get a chance to read it. Enough of them did that I got a book deal out of it. I was pretty excited.

Researcher Mac Tonnies Dies at 34
Interviews By Mad
With the sad passing of prolific blogger, Fortean researcher and futurist Mac Tonnies, we take a trip back to May of 2008 when I had the opportunity to interview Mac regarding a variety of subjects. I was always impressed by his intellect and responses, as well as his personable, down to earth nature. I found Mac to be an inspiring figure with some very unique viewpoints, so I share with you our discussion and the hopes that you'll visit his exellent blog http://posthumanblues.blogspot.com/ to help keep his memory and research alive for a long time to come. Neither a believer or debunker in the myriad topics of high strangeness he frequently covered, his presence will be missed.

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.”

-MAD: Mac, it’s terrific to speak with you as I’ve been a fan of your mind expanding blog POSTHUMAN BLUES for awhile now, so thanks for taking the time. The site has been updated, almost daily for 5 years now, covering a wide variety of subjects (mostly related to different areas of Science, UFOlogy, or futurism). Why did you decide to dedicate yourself to such material, what keeps you inspired, and how did your interest in these subjects initially begin?

-MAC: I never consciously decided what subjects I would cover; Posthuman Blues began as an experiment, as I didn't really know if I’d take to blogging or not. Specifically, I didn't think my life was interesting enough to warrant a Web presence -- and, frankly, it probably isn't. But I quickly found myself using Posthuman Blues as a holding pen for ideas. I even wrote a portion of my Mars book online. Five years later, it's kind of fun to look back on. It's taken on a double-role as diary and time capsule.

Of Men and Supermen:
Interview W/ Bestselling Novelist Greg Cox
mad - http://www.upsidebackwards.info
4/27/09

-MAD: Greg, it's an honor to speak with you today and I'm not blowing smoke when I say you've emerged as one of my favorite authors over the past few months. Thank you kindly for taking the time to answer a few questions. Your contributions to the STAR TREK universe have been second to none, with the exception, perhaps, of the illustrious Peter David. The masterfully crafted books 'The Eugenics Wars' Volumes 1 & 2, as well as 'To Reign In Hell' and 'The Q Continuum' are among the most highly recommended works of Trek literature! First off, a broad question but could you give us a little personal insight into the process of becoming an author, particularly in regards to the 'Star Trek' franchise? How did you break the galactic barrier and get signed on as a Captain (or at least a lieutenant commander) at the literary helm of such an acclaimed series?

-G.C: I've been a Trek fan all my life, but my big break came when Pocket Books had to launch the DEEP SPACE NINE book line in a hurry. The editor, John Ordover, needed to sign up a whole lot of DS9 novels to coincide with the TV series so he started looking around for new Trek writers. Fortunately, John and I had previously worked as assistant editors at Tor Books before, and he knew that John Gregory Betancourt and I had recently written several BATMAN short stories for DC Comics, so he recruited us for the DS9 program. That was nine Star Trek novels ago!

Discussion W/ occult researcher Tracy Twyman
Interviews By Mad

Money, Manipulation, and Mind Control:
An interview with Tracy Twyman
mad- http://www.upsidebackwards.info
11/30/08

-MAD: Tracy, it’s very nice to speak with you today even if some of the subject matter isn’t all that pleasant to deal with. To get started, you were the editor of the subversive and well respected ‘Dagobert’s Revenge Magazine’ which ran from 1996 through 2003. This publication regularly covered a variety of subjects, and many original articles you contributed are still available -HERE-. First off, could you give us a little insight into the history of ‘Dagobert’s Revenge’, and how did you initially get involved with researching this myriad landscape of controversial subject matter?

-Tracy: When I was about 17 years old, an older friend of mine loaned me Holy Blood, Holy Grail, and it changed my life. I became entranced with the Grail family, and I decided I would put out a propaganda sheet aimed at bringing them back into power temporally. Right around the time I turned 18, in the summer of 1996, I put out the first issue of Dagobert’s Revenge Magazine, which I made by xeroxing pictures and text out of books, then cutting them out and pasting them into a new layout. The first issue was just 12 pages long and very amateurish, with a collage look to most of the pages. The aim was to make it look like something published by the Priory of Sion, much like the CIRCUIT magazine that the Priory had published in the 1950s. So it was full of weird little key words and phrases that seemed like they were meant to be understood only by other initiates.

Interview with 'Mercy Kill'
Interviews By Mad

The Order of War:
A discussion W/ Ray Willis of ‘Mercy Kill’
mad – www.upsidebackwards.info
11/11/08

While I’m no stranger to the local music scene in my area I must admit it’s been years since something was interesting enough to get me out of the house on a Friday night. I can hold my liquor with the best of ‘em, but I’m in no hurry to trek to the bar every weekend and pour $50 dollars down the drain just so I can mingle with horny drunkards and raging sports fans donning greasy barbecue stained fingers. Fortunately, on the eve of Halloween I received an invitation I couldn’t refuse which proved well worth my effort to take the short trip out to Ian’s Pub in Greenfield, Indiana, for a variety of metal bands who rocked the place until the early morning hours. Among the acts were ‘All Gods Die’, ‘Devil to Pay’, ‘Blood and Soil’, and the opening band (the best of the night according to many of the 75+ people in attendance), the hard-core gentlemen from ‘Mercy Kill’.

Luckily I was able to snag a copy of their recently released debut album ‘The Order of War’ which is a rowdy and hammering exhibition of talented musicianship, blending elements of metal with a much needed anti-authoritarian message. From powerful tracks like ‘World Domination’, to ‘Global Killer’ and ‘Beyond the Mirror’; lyrically the significance is definitely worth a deeper read through, while stylistically their approach should be enjoyable to most fans of this genre. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Ray Willis -lead singer of ‘Mercy Kill’- for a discussion on the current state of music, politics, conspiracy, and the reality of a New World Order.
